UPMC is looking for a full-time Clinical Engineering Apprentice to support our UPMC Jameson location.

This position works Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with rotating on-call.

Purpose:

The Clinical Engineering Apprentice will perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, inspections and calibration of a limited scope of low to mid-level biomedical equipment under the guidance and direct supervision of an experienced BMET. Scope of work shall include patient related medical devices used throughout UPMC, hospital affiliates, and institutions contracting for services with BioTronics Inc. Work under supervision and select from a variety of established procedures to establish assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Routinely perform preventive maintenance, inspection and repair of Low Priority type medical equipment.

  • Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc. is required as needed. Use of personal vehicle may be required.

  • Priority Class 'Low' Equipment includes but is not limited to: Lab equipment, physical therapy equipment, saws, dental equipment, compressors, and general patient care equipment, arthroscopy instruments, standard scissors, forceps, retractors, elevators, ortho curettes, osteotomes, chisels, bone cutters, printer and PC peripherals.

  • Participate in continuing education.

  • Understand and implement specific regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos.

  • Understand and operate all basic test equipment.

  • With direct supervision, occasionally performs preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs of medium priority type medical equipment.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Previous experience handling medical equipment in Central Services (CS), Material Management or similar departments are preferred but not required.

  • Experience in electronics and/or electromechanical devices is preferred but not required.

  • Basic computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System and common office software including but not limited to MS Office.

  • May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medication is allowed. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
