Two positions: 60017110 and 60017248 will be filled from this posting.
These positions will serve as Transportation Worker II in the role of Sign Erector for the Division 3 Traffic Services unit. These positions report to the Traffic Services located in Castle Hayne but will report to either Duplin or Onslow County. This will require manual and equipment operational work in installation and maintenance of traffic signs along roadways within Division 3. This position will conduct sign maintenance on all routes in their assigned area. In addition to general sign maintenance, the duties of this position will include installing traffic control (i.e. setting detours & road closures) and operating a variety of hand and power tools. This position will work in various weather conditions and high traffic areas. It will be subject to emergency callback, requiring work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency. The applicant must be able to report to work at the scheduled time and be a team player. This position will require you to read, write, and act upon both verbal and written instructions; be capable of planning and organizing daily work activities. This position will maintain daily records and reports on all activities within the assigned area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience in the installation of traffic control such as detours and lane closures.
Experience in Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies
Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and traverse rough and uneven terrain. This position will require some climbing and bending. Must be able to operate a state vehicle and heavy-duty trucks required in signing operations and able to perform inspections to ensure equipment is serviced and maintained properly. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of an NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
