DEPARTMENT: Housekeeping

POSITION: Director of Housekeeping & Laundry Services

SUPERVISOR: Director of Facilities

PAY RANGE: $20.00-$25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Duties:

Assure an overall acceptable level of environmental sanitation within the facility.

Keep abreast of products and equipment to improve the work efficiency of the housekeeping/laundry staff and department.

Interview, employ, train and supervise housekeeping/laundry personnel including assignments, scheduling, disciplining and counseling on employment.

Assures that staff is proficient in competencies related to their job duties.

Maintain appropriate policies and procedures dealing with the operation of the department and revise same as needed.

Order materials and supplies related to the department, perform inventory control and maintain responsibility for distribution of same. Assure staff knowledge of products in use including any necessary precautions in use.

Oversee the ordering, receiving and distribution of linens and related products as needed from facility vendor to nursing units.

Assure effective operation of in-house laundries in the collection, cleaning and distribution of resident clothing and linens.

Provide annual entrapment testing of all resident beds and any new beds put in to use.

Make recommendations to the Administrator in areas to improve environmental appearance, cleaning efficiency and safety.

Maintains Safety Data Sheet Book for all housekeeping and laundry supplies.

Maintains inventory of facility-owned mattresses and distributes to residents upon notification.

Develops and implements a preventive maintenance program to assure all floors are maintained and equipment remains in good working condition. Does periodic inspection of facility furnishings to assure cleanliness and good repair. Makes recommendations to Administrator regarding replacement cycle and purchase of new furniture.

Responsible to assist in packing and storing belongings of expired residents if needed.

Fills in for Porter or Housekeeper if short staffed.

Performs audits as requested.

Performs duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility's corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws. Adhere's to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of registrants and employees, as necessary to perform job duties.

Any other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

Minimum two-year college degree in the field of management or certification in Housekeeping/Sanitation coursework in an ap-proved facility or academic setting and three years experience in a management role.

OR

High School Graduate with supplemental coursework related to management, housekeeping/sanitation and five years experience as Director/Supervisor of a Housekeeping Department.
