Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

General Description:

The Direct Support Professional provides Active Treatment services to the resident.  The Direct Support Professional works directly with the resident, providing adaptive daily living skills training based upon the resident's Individual Service Plan (ISP).  He/she acts as a positive role model for the individuals residing at Mount Aloysius.  He/she must have a working knowledge of ICF/IID standards, Licensure regulations, and facility policies and procedures.  The position will exert 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demand strength ratings, this is considered medium work.  (Staff receives a working knowledge of ICF/IID standards and regulations from facility in-services.)

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Provide training related to the Individual Service Plan (ISP) as defined by the Interdisciplinary Team for each resident. (Provide training on-going as needed)
  2. Assist and/or train residents incapable of performing their own hygiene tasks to maintain acceptable levels of grooming and cleanliness. (throughout the day)
  3. Accompany residents to scheduled activities both inside and outside the facility.
  4. Work closely with the resident at meal times to assist, teach, and model appropriate eating and social skills.
  5. Assist residents with routine household chores and other daily living skills to encourage independence and responsibility for their own environment.
  6. Implement behavior support strategies as defined by the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and meet the emotional needs of the resident through use of techniques such as reinforcement, demonstration, and modeling of alternate behaviors.
  7. Complete all necessary documentation of services, by end of shift, to accurately record the progress of each resident.
  8. Participate in the development/revision and implementation of training plans for ISP related programs. Provide information to theQIDP for evaluation/assessment of the resident(s).
  9. Observe residents' attitudes, reactions, appetite, etc., and report changes or unusual findings to the QIDP and to Medical Services personnel.
  10. Participate in the ISP conference, Behavior Support Meeting, Special Staffing, or other meetings as necessary for the benefit of the resident(s).
  11. Assist in the admission, transferring, and discharging of residents.
  12. Completes all quality assurance duties by auditing all documentation books and plans.
  13. Regardless of daily apartment assignments, completes all duties and provides Active Treatment.
  14. Maintain residents' clothing and personal belongings and ensure that all are appropriately tagged. Complete inventory sheets.
  15. Assist in the orientation and instruction of new personnel.
  16. Treats each man with dignity and respect, and as an adult.

     

     

     

     

  17. Performs other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor, QIDP, Program Director/Designee, or the Administrator.

  18. Maintains required licensure and certification.
  19. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  20. Able to work at least 16 hours overtime as needed.
