POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Applied Research, Evaluation and Data Analytics (OAREDA) at The City University of New York (CUNY), is organized into four main areas – Evaluation and Program Support (REPS), Institutional Research (IR), Policy Research, and Data Management. Each area has distinct yet intersecting responsibilities that contribute to the overall work of the office. We are seeking a Research Specialist to join our dynamic team of data analysts, program support specialists, application developers, and data managers that provide data for decision support to the Chancellery of CUNY, the University community, and external constituents. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Institutional Research, or their designee, the Research Specialist prepares analyses and reports leveraging a range of data resources to provide information for strategic initiatives, academic planning, operational activities related to student success, and academic policy and program decisions. In addition, the Research Specialist contributes to meeting the high demand for cyclical and ad-hoc reporting, including the development of data dashboards.
Other key responsibilities include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Conducts research on policies and best practices to support University mission, strategic goals, and key initiatives around student success.
Provides statistical and/or quantitative analysis by coding, and organizing program data sets, and developing effective formats for presenting and illustrating findings, including tabular and graphical presentations.
Identifies appropriate data resources and metrics to support the analytic and reporting requirements of a broad and diverse audience of internal and external data consumers.
Prepares data for compliance reporting to federal, state and city governmental agencies and in response to internal and external constituent requests.
Coordinates the administration, collection, analysis of data, management, and organization of data resources.
Liaises with program partners to support the information needs of academic programs at the University level.
NOTE:
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred
Master’s degree with formal training in quantitative research methods and/or data analytics and reporting. An advanced degree in a directly related discipline may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
Four years’ higher education research experience, including quantitative data analysis, interpretation, and presentation experience using various techniques.
Formal training in research and evaluation methods with a strong understanding of statistical concepts.
Experience with investigating data and translating research findings into deliverables for diverse types of audiences.
Experience with joining/integrating data sets and manipulating large amounts of data from multiple sources.
Extensive experience with statistical software, e.g. R and Stata.
Experience with SQL and Oracle database query and reporting tools.
Experience with Tableau or programming skills in other data visualization tools.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs, virtual meeting/conferencing and collaboration tools, plus ability to learn and use new software as needed.
Detail oriented and accurate with strong analytical, research, evaluation, and writing skills.
Proactive and flexible with strong interpersonal communication, presentation and group facilitation skills.
Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple evaluation and/or research projects and meet program demands and deadlines.

Compiles, maintains, and analyzes institutional data in various formats
Produces reports and metrics based on department's needs; responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests
Loads, extracts, edits, and evaluates data for reporting and analytics
Maintains selected databases and document libraries, updating and ensuring data quality and accuracy
May participate in internal and external surveys as needed
May consult with others in designing methodology for research projects
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $70,238 - $86,645; commensurate with education, credentials, and experience.
