Position Overview

The Senior Manager of the Marine Engineering Services group is responsible for cable and route engineering from the preliminary design phase through the end of the marine survey and into cable loading. This person will ensure that contractual commitments are carried through to survey contracts from the system supply contract.

Responsibilities

  • Survey operations management involves working most closely with Permitting/Regulatory, Marine Coordinators, and Fleet Operations personnel while managing SubCom’s own survey platform, the Ocean Surveyor, as well as any third-party vessel SubCom may hire for marine route survey.

  • Management of third-party vendors providing marine route survey services to SubCom to ensure that the data are fit for purpose and collected in a timely manner.

  • Overseeing industrial personnel aboard a survey vessel (Ocean Surveyor, and/or other third-party vessels as necessary) as well as on shore (charting and data) to produce the contracted deliverables.

  • Once the data are available from the survey operation and onshore processors, the Senior Manager oversees Route Engineers who ensure that the correct route, cable type, and cable protection method (plow burial, PLIB, etc.) is employed. This requires interaction with Offshore, Shore End Installation and Submersibles groups to ensure that the practices employed are the safest and most feasible for the company, the personnel involved, and the product. Interaction with Factory Project Management will be necessary to ensure that the correct product type for seabed conditions is built in a timely manner.

  • Manage multiple plans of work to ensure that operations follow the overall plans set forth by the contracts and the project management teams to minimize downtime and produce downstream deliverables to keep all projects on schedule. This will require individual project focus and a focus on the interactions between project schedules.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, Survey Data Collection, CAD:

  • Makai, ESRI, GeoMedia, Global Mapper experience

  • AutoCAD or similar program skills

  • Understanding of survey data collection software and hardware

  • Understanding of survey vessel mobilization, large and small

  • Charting & mapping skills:

  • Understand geodesy, common datums

  • Understanding of survey data collection techniques

  • Able to read common charts – NOAA, British Admiralty

  • Able to combine and use multiple data sets from various sources

  • Strong communication, technical writing, research, computer, organization, and interpersonal skills.

  • Marine experience required.

  • Willingness to travel via sea, air, and land.

  • Passport holder preferable.
