Project Self-Sufficiency Housing Development Specialist in Newton, New Jersey

Full-time housing development specialist with a passion for helping to alleviate the homeless crisis needed to spearhead fundraising, research, development, and procurement of affordable, permanent housing for individuals and families in need. The housing specialist's responsibilities include researching and accessing available funding streams, and liaising with community organizations, government agencies, and property owners regarding suitable housing. An outstanding housing specialist should be highly knowledgeable about the property market, social services, funding sources, and legal restrictions.Responsibilities:•Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and property owners.•Understanding and adhering to program rules and restrictions, including opportunity zones and municipal ordinances.•Research community, state, and federal funding sources.•Assist with grant writing.•Initiate, develop, and support programs designed to move people from temporary shelter to stable, permanent housing.•Familiarity with Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP), the Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Program (Section 8) and the State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP).Requirements:•Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work or a related field required.•Experience as a housing counselor preferred.•Familiarity with municipal ordinances regarding housing.•Expertise with HUD, USDA, NJ Department of Community Affairs, and other government agencies.•Working knowledge of social service agencies and community services.•Knowledge of regulatory standards and property management.•Good communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.•Strong analytical and organizational skills.Health benefits, on-site childcare, and 401K plan available.
