Location: DOC/Headquarters - Sentencing Commission - North Little Rock

The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary

Functions

Compiles the work of the Arkansas Sentencing Commission, including the voluntary sentencing standards, legislative recommendations, balanced correctional plans, and fiscal impact assessments for proposed legislation. Compiles reports on compliance with sentencing guidelines. Collaborates with the Administrative Office of the Courts to implement an integrated Sentencing order. Coordinates with Division of Correction and Division of Community Correction directors to develop intake processes. Conducts continuing legal education regarding the sentencing guidelines. Supervises office staff.

Dimensions

Occasional in and out-of-state travel is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

K nowledge of Sentencing Law in the state of Arkansas.

Ability to interpret statutes, administrative rules, and case law.

Knowledge of the administrative rule promulgation process.

Knowledge of legislative process.

Ability to coordinate proceedings of a board or commission.

Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed to practice law in the state of Arkansas. Four (4) years of legal experience, including one (1) in criminal justice or a related field. One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience.

Licenses

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
