This position is located at the Bridge Office in Oakdale and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent is expected to work in the office on occasion.

The Bridge Scoping Engineer provides planning, scoping reports, and cost estimates for all state bridge projects, including preservation, rehabilitation, and new construction. This position serves as the central point of contact for District Bridge scoping inquiries and supports Districts in managing bridge project development from MnSHIP through CHIP and into STIP planning stages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate scoping reports and cost estimates for state bridge projects.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure projects meet schedule, cost, and scope requirements.

  • Identify project risks, constraints, and document contingencies during early scoping.

  • Support Districts in defining bridge repair work and cost estimations for STIP entry.

  • Optimize the STIP budget and address future unfunded needs through accurate scoping estimates.

  • Serve as a technical resource on bridge preservation and improvement strategies

  • Identify and implement improvements and efficiencies in the scoping process

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID), or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. If obtaining licensure through comity (reciprocity), a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.

AND

  • Three years of experience as an Engineer Senior or equivalent that demonstrates:

  • Experience in structural engineering or bridge design;

  • Experience using computer software for structural analysis or bridge design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Bridge Preservation and Improvement Guidelines.

  • Experience applying cost estimation for broad investment decisions.
