Counseling Advocate
For nearly 30 years, the Violence Intervention Program (https://www.ofoinc.org/find-program/violence-intervention-program/) has provided support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes throughout Otsego County. Become part of our team to help break the cycle of violence and assist survivors in rebuilding their lives. As Counseling Advocate you will:
Screen and assess incoming clients and develop service plans
Conduct group and individual counseling
Act as a client advocate with external organizations
Accompany clients to police stations, hospitals, and courts
Assist victims of violent crimes to file crime victim compensation claims
Provide on call coverage for hotline as required, including accompanying clients to hospitals, law enforcement agencies, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social work or highly related field with one year of relevant experience in domestic violence, sexual assault and counseling; New York State Department of Health Rape Crisis Certification required within first six months of employment; valid New York State Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:
Typical office environment and equipment; VIP housing shelter; occasional travel; occasional on call coverage, which may be outside of normal business hours; work with clients in crisis.
Pay Range Guide:
Standard Start Rate - education and experience meet job requirements
Advanced Start Rate - education and experience exceed job requirements (subject to approval)
