Community Health Systems Behavioral Health Technician Lead in ORO VALLEY, Arizona
Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician Lead provides direct patient care and operational support in a behavioral health setting while serving as a resource for Behavioral Health Technicians. This role assists in implementing treatment plans, monitoring patient behavior, ensuring safety, and supporting therapeutic interventions. The Lead also provides guidance, training, and oversight to Behavioral Health Technicians, ensuring adherence to facility policies, safety protocols, and patient care standards.
Essential Functions
Provides direct patient care, assisting with daily activities, therapeutic interventions, and behavior monitoring to ensure a safe and structured environment.
Leads by example, assisting with orientation, training, and mentoring of Behavioral Health Technicians to ensure competency in patient care and safety protocols.
Monitors and documents patient behavior, interventions, and responses, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing individualized treatment plans under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals.
Serves as a point of contact for troubleshooting patient care concerns, escalating critical issues to clinical staff or leadership as necessary.
Ensures compliance with facility policies, safety procedures, and behavioral intervention protocols, including elopement prevention and de-escalation techniques.
Leads shift handoffs and team huddles, facilitating communication between staff regarding patient status, safety concerns, and treatment updates.
Supports crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts, utilizing approved techniques to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Assists with vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, and behavioral health screenings as directed by clinical staff.
Maintains and ensures proper stocking of supplies, equipment functionality, and readiness of patient care areas to support daily operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or GED required
Associate Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field preferred
2-4 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, or a related healthcare setting required
Experience in a leadership, mentoring, or supervisory role within behavioral health services preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of behavioral health disorders, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention strategies.
Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to support and train Behavioral Health Technicians.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations, making quick, informed decisions.
Proficiency in behavioral health documentation, EMR systems, and data tracking for patient care.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks, implement solutions, and escalate concerns appropriately.
Licenses and Certifications
BCLS - Basic Life Support obtained within 30 days of hire required
Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) preferred
CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training preferred
