Carmeuse Americas Paralegal Support in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium

Job Summary:

As the Paralegal Support, you are the person who performs a variety of legal activities in support of various departments at Carmeuse headquarters in Louvain-La-Neuve, all in accordance with the established standards of the legal profession, with a view to protect the Carmeuse Group’s reputation and business interests and to help ensure it complies with all relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities & Duties

As our Paralegal Support, your responsibilities will be axed around different aspects:

  • You manage (coordination, drafting and filing) all corporate housekeeping formalities related to the conduct of the meetings of the shareholders and board of directors of our various group entities within Europe (with a specific focus on Belgium)

  • And support the legal department team members in reviewing and drafting confidentiality agreements, intercompany arrangements (such as inter-company loans) and other standardized agreements

  • You will also support the legal department team members in reviewing, managing and follow-up of internal corporate policies

  • The Management of KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) requirements of our various stakeholders (banks, notaries, law firms etc.)

  • And the management and follow-up of compliance tools used by the legal department

  • Finally, you assist team members of the legal department with day-to-day and legal research queries.

Your Profile

  • You studied professional bachelor's in legal practice, an academic bachelor's in law degree, a degree in business management (option paralegal studies) or, at least, you have 3 years of professional experience in a corporate department with a sizeable company, law firm, notary public office or similar

  • Fluent in French and English

  • You act as a great team player

  • Good organizational skills, attention for detail

  • You maintain a strong focus on quality of work and important sense of responsibility.

Your Future Team

The legal department is based at Carmeuse’s headquarters in Louvain-La-Neuve. It is currently composed of 4 ladies (3 lawyers and 1 assistant). The responsibility of the legal department is generally to make sure that the Carmeuse Group’s reputation and business interests are safeguarded, and it complies with all relevant laws and regulations. The team is very dynamic with a strong focus on quality and speed of work but also room for valuable inter-relational exchanges and fun at work! The team works closely with a variety of other departments, both based in Louvain-La-Neuve and elsewhere throughout the Group.

Your Manager

Kristel Verleyen, 53 years old, is responsible for the legal department in her capacity as Group General Counsel. Kristel has been with Carmeuse for 23 years and brings a wealth of in-house knowledge about the Carmeuse business as well as lots of legal expertise. She takes the time in accompanying her team members to bring them to the standards where she wants them to be over time, attaches great importance to a trust-based relationship and a client focused solution-oriented attitude.

  • First, Olivia Braszko, our Talent Acquisition Lead will analyze your Résumé and cover letter

  • A first "Teams" interview will be scheduled with Olivia. You will take 2 personality questionnaires. She will want to know more about you, as a person and as a professional. She will assess your motivations and answer to your questions

  • You will have a second interview with Kristel Verleyen (our Group General Counsel) and Aurelie Mordant (our HRBP)

  • The last interview will take place with the team members, Thérèse Lambrechts (Our Legal Advisor group) and Elvira Saitova (our Legal Advisor EMEA).
