Position Summary

The Alliance Quality Assurance Manager establishes the quality assurance framework for the Toyota Alliance EV before mass production. This includes the "Early Detection and Early Resolution" (EDER) agreement and Quality Assurance Responsibilities Agreement with Toyota. The role involves gathering and analyzing field quality information, coordinating prompt actions with Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), and providing regular reports to the Associate Director of NASI Quality Assurance (QA). Additionally, the manager creates and executes strategies for U.S. local staff to support the NASI-QA organization post-production.

Major Responsibilities

  • Facilitates market quality improvement and operation management related to Toyota Alliance Model.

  • Establishes and maintains a quality assurance structure for Alliance model at least ninety (90) days prior to the start of mass production in collaboration with Toyota Motor North America (TMNA).

  • Prepares and issues a responsibility agreement with TMNA regarding basic Quality Assurance matters, including but not limited to warranty, yard campaign, stop shipping, quality hold, Early Detection and Early Resolution (EDER), Over The Air (OTA) operation, field actions, and government reporting.

  • Gathers and manages field quality information (including Technical Reports from field, warranty claims, telematics data, Customer Advocacy Department [CAD] data, web forum information, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA]-Vehicle Owner’s Questionnaire [VOQ], etc.) analysis results.

  • Provides requests to collect failure parts, conduct on-site investigations, register official critical/trending issues as official Controlled Items at Subaru Corporation (SBR) and North American Subaru, Inc. (NASI), and manages the operation for software updates (OTA, USB updates, etc.).

  • Manages quality topics, requests and negotiates prompt action with TMNA on field quality issues, and reports regularly (weekly and monthly) to NASI-QA-VP.

  • Facilitates development and enhancement of NASI-QA organization.

  • Plans and develops a mid- to long-term organizational strategy to determine how U.S. local staff can most effectively support the NASI-QA organization.

  • Upon approval of the NASI-Director and the VP, proceeds with the procedures necessary to implement the organizational strategy (e.g., creating job descriptions, hiring staff, organizational changes, etc.).

  • Manages the U.S. local staff for NASI-QA (excluding Field Safety and Compliance [FSC] team), including but not limited to goal setting, performance reviews, career development, job description revisions, and corporate initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Learns TMNA's quality assurance procedure and strategy, provides reports, and gives feedback to NASI-QA leadership.

  • In addition to playing a role as a liaison between Toyota and Subaru, understands the requests from SBR as needed and negotiates with TMNA as necessary. Conversely, if there is a request from TMNA, negotiates with SBR.

Required Skills and Personal Qualifications

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance and defect analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with all levels within Subaru of America (SOA), NASI, SBR, and TMNA organizations.

  • Basic technical knowledge of EV models.

  • Ability to create and develop strategies for organizational management.

  • Effectiveness in collaborating with Japanese staff (verbally, non-verbally, and in writing) and accommodating Japanese business culture.

  • Proficiency with relevant computer systems, including Microsoft Office; competency with Subaru-specific platforms (such as Oracle, Siebel, North Star, TechShare, SubaruNet) is preferred.

  • Understanding of SBR, NASI, and SOA quality systems and processes.

  • Ability to negotiate with external entities regarding the development of necessary contracts.

Education/Experience Requirements: 4-Year College Degree (BA, BS) or 10-12 years' of relevant experience

Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $111,500 - $150,000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
