Part Time Position - 20 hours
Salary Range ($22,500 - $22,800)
For over 40 years, The Cooperative has been at the forefront of developing innovative strategies in maternal and child health care. We work to improve the region’s health by educating communities, advocating for system improvements, and engaging with stakeholders. The Cooperative is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) coalition of healthcare professionals and consumers licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health as the maternal and child health consortium serving the seven counties of South Jersey.

The Alma Peer Mentor will be responsible for utilizing lived experiences and following the guidelines of the Alma Model, providing coaching, support, and skills to new and expectant birthing individuals who are experiencing behavioral health and/or substance use challenges. The Alma Peer Mentor will provide program services through one-on-one sessions and link clients to community resources including mental health and/or substance use treatment as needed.
Essential Functions:
Contribute to the Cooperative’s commitment to equity and continuous quality improvement that aligns with the agency’s mission, goals, and advancement. * Effectively cross-collaborate with agency staff, leaders, and board members to foster a comprehensive approach of information sharing, working committees, and collective representation. * Routinely disseminate relevant information, presentations, trainings, and learning opportunities for internal program and agency staff. * Participate in all training activities as required by the grant. * Participate in all relevant on-going staff development opportunities (trainings, summits, conferences, etc.) to increase skill development, elevate program goals, and engage staff members with timely key learnings. * Adhere to all elements of Alma program model including, but not limited to service delivery, documentation, policies/procedures. * Acts as a positive role model by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills in accordance with Alma program model guidelines/requirements. * Advocates, empowers, assists individuals to connect with resources as needed to increase well-being. * Empowers individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their well-being. * Ensures confidentiality of all client information. * Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency required, Associate’s degree preferred.
2 years’ experience with the principles of recovery/and or prenatal/postpartum behavioral health and wellness.
Effective oral communication skills.
Ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to work well with a variety of people and in a team fashion.
Knowledge of community resources.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Valid driver’s license, current insurance policy and car.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to see to read documents and hear well enough to communicate with others.
Must be able to write, type on a computer, and use a telephone.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:
Travels regularly to sites where traffic, weather, and other environmental conditions may be encountered; otherwise works in a climate-controlled professional office environment generally free from hazards and other adverse working conditions.
