Job Summary

Create, develop, and own the design of the core experiences across all devices and products globally: the consumer experience, the partner experience, and the developer experience. Collaborate with the other design teams to weave all the products (Entertainment, Sports, Connected Living, Commerce and Beyond TV) into a single, total experience - an ecosystem where the products are great independently, but also better together. Enable the creation of multi-platform designs for our content products and the syndication of our aggregation products to multiple media brands worldwide. The role is global, responsible for the design of the UI for the entertainment products and the connected living products (broadband, WiFi, and smart home) for Xfinity and Sky, as well as major media brands around the world including Foxtel, Rogers, and Multichoice. Strategically, this role will bring together two product areas as a single UX and UI experience, creating an ecosystem out of entertainment and connected living products - a quad-play bundle of entertainment, broadband, mobile, and smart home. This is strategically important for Xfinity and Sky as the individual premium products come under pressure from lower-cost alternatives (cord-cutting entertainment and wireless broadband). As there is no product team responsible for the ecosystem experience this position is a mix of design and product roles, so involves stakeholder management within the product team as well as with commercial teams and execs at Xfinity, Xumo, Sky, and other partners. This role is key in the battle for the 'UI for the home' against similar efforts from Google, Apple, Amazon, Samsung, and other big tech companies.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for the UI design system used by all the products, across graphic design, copy, animation, sound and interaction design. The team is also responsible for platform UX, including page templates, UI components, interaction design, main navigation, playlist, full-screen experience, search, profiles, assistant, notifications, setup & activation, PIN, dashboard and voice.

  • You are responsible for the multi-platform design system, ensuring the experience leverages the capabilities and opportunities of the different hardware and software combinations globally, as well as handling the challenges and trade-offs involved.

  • Lead the design and product management of the total customer experience, working horizontally across the entire interaction surface alongside the Chief Product Officer, the Global Design Director and the Global Devices Director. Play a product management role for the 'experience at the heart of the home'. With the software product management teams split into two parts (Entertainment and Connected Living) you will need to close the gap in product management and lead collaboration in overlapping areas, helping define and roadmap features and requirements for an ecosystem experience that competes against Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, Meta, etc.

  • Design UI and UX for end-consumers, design systems for internal teams, design tools for partners (CMS, brand design) and design kits for third-party developers. Also run a presentations team to help with internal presentations for partners globally. Work with brand teams worldwide to create theme-able UI and collaborate with Design Engineering to make this UI easy to integrate with production code.

  • Ensure the creation of inclusive products that reach the widest possible audience globally, and low-carbon products that make us the platform of choice as the world moves to net zero.

  • Connect external best practice thinking, market research and data to inform decisions - using design as a method to help product and engineering teams collaborate around tangible concepts.

  • Partner with product teams to develop a single global roadmap for all products that achieves the different long-range business plans for partners worldwide including Xumo, Xfinity and Sky. Understand local market requirements and the business models of our partner brands to develop ways for our global products to be configured locally, to create the best combination of brand, proposition and content for each home around the world.

  • Create lasting and trusted relationships with Global Product teams and with partner teams around the world. Communicate design decisions and strategies effectively to executives at the biggest media brands in the world, including Xumo, Xfinity and Sky.

  • Play a leadership role in the wider Global Design team, helping lead a team of over 250 multi-skilled designers and engineers in the US and UK. Act as the studio head for the Philadelphia studio.

Employees at all levels are expected to:

  • Understand our Operating Principles; make them the guidelines for how you do your job.

  • Own the customer experience - think and act in ways that put our customers first, give them seamless digital options at every touchpoint, and make them promoters of our products and services.

  • Know your stuff - be enthusiastic learners, users and advocates of our game-changing technology, products and services, especially our digital tools and experiences.

  • Win as a team - make big things happen by working together and being open to new ideas.

  • Be an active part of the Net Promoter System - a way of working that brings more employee and customer feedback into the company - by joining huddles, making call backs and helping us elevate opportunities to do better for our customers.

  • Drive results and growth.

  • Respect and promote inclusion & diversity.

  • Do what's right for each other, our customers, investors and our communities.
