POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Clinical Dietitian coordinates and assists the Integrated Dietetic Manager in overseeing the work operations of the integrated clinical nutrition staff. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Integrated Dietetic Manager with administrative tasks, supervising the integrated clinical dietitians and nutrition interns, maintaining policies, standards, and programs for the provision of optimal, cost-effective patient care; monitoring clinical dietetic performance for safety, efficacy, and evidence-based practice; recruiting, hiring, and orienting staff; interacting with the Integrated Dietitian Manager and organization’s management and professional staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice. This position is essential to Adelante’s team-based primary care medical home model of care that supports coordinated, patient-centered, comprehensive health care to all.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) year college degree in Dietetics or nutrition-related degree and preferred two (2) years’ experience in community or clinical nutrition education programs or completion of a dietetic internship with RD/RDN credentials.

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a clinical dietitian, with supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must hold current credentials as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration 

  • Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations)

  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety

  • Documented excellence in customer service with the ability to interact with and instruct employees and clients from beginner to advanced levels

  • Demonstrated competency in nutrition education methods and techniques

  • Working knowledge of current Microsoft Office applications and relevant program-related applications

  • Competency in working with people of various cultures

  • Experience with motivational interviewing

  • Evidence of valid Arizona driver’s license and current auto insurance

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Prioritization and multitasking skills are required

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

  • Travel to multiple locations may be requested

     

    POSITION REPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL:

  • Work in close collaboration with the Integrated Dietitian Manager, Integrated Health Manager, and Senior Integrated Health Manager to assure that the clinical integrated registered dietitians are meeting standards needed for development and expansion of the program.

  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and facilitating training of new employees to meet department staffing needs.

  • Serve as a mentor to facilitate professional growth and job satisfaction of employees.

  • Assist in assessing, designing, implementing, evaluating, and creating/updating nutrition workflows and guidance materials to help in improved dietetic processes.

  • Update nutrition communication channels regularly to ensure integrated dietitians are up to date on departmental and organizational changes.

  • Utilize an organizationally approved nutrition care manual and evidence analysis library source; establishes institution-specific nutrition practice guidelines; keeps abreast of new developments and implements new clinical practices as appropriate.

  • Assist in managing administrative managerial tasks such as timecard approvals, scheduling adjustments and tracking departmental projects

  • Use the nutrition care process to provide a comprehensive nutrition assessment of the patient’s nutritional needs, suggests appropriate nutrition therapy interventions, and documents nutrition care plan in the electronic health record

  • Provide nutrition education and health promotion to clients and others from the different grants/programs as well as preventative strategies to care team members

  • Clearly communicate and coordinate relevant patient information amongst the care team and treating clinicians to maintain proper patient care plans.

  • Evaluate and educates patients on the use of nutrition-related medications, dietary supplements, and drug-nutrient interactions

  • Develop, write, and review written nutrition related patient education materials as well as educational guidelines for nutrition and preventive health promotion services according to the local standard care plan

  • Refer to appropriate interprofessional team members, resources, or programs as needed

  • Assist the Integrated Dietetic Manager in the completion of appropriate reports as needed

  • May develop relationships with external healthcare organizations and facilities in efforts to find additional resources for enhanced patient care

  • Attend trainings, and conferences for continued professional development

  • May provide telehealth education using landline/Jabber soft phone, or Zoom used via desktop, or personal mobile device  

  • Other duties as may be required or assigned by the Integrated Dietitian Manager and/or Senior Integrated Health Manager

     

    NONESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Fluency in a language in addition to English (Spanish preferred)

    Work environment:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
