Indian Health Service Custodial Worker in Pine Ridge, South Dakota

Summary This position serves as the Quarters Custodial Worker in the Quarters Maintenance Department of the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The incumbent will perform a variety of cleaning functions within Government Quarters. The position reports to the Quarters Manager. Responsibilities Cleans various areas such as apartments, houses, dorms, and mechanical plants including walls, windows, floors, appliances, ceilings, bathrooms, fixtures, kitchens. Uses cleaning chemicals and follows special procedures for infection control. Vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors/carpet (spotting and extracting), and linoleum. Will use heavy equipment such as high-speed polishers and carpet extractors. Assists supervisor in record keeping of supply inventory and usage. Maintains, cleans, and properly stores equipment and other departmental property. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the federal wage system job grading standards for WG-3566. No specific length of experience is required. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Competition for Custodial Worker positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
