UPMC Behavioral Health Navigator Supervisor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Western Behavioral Health is hiring a Behavioral Health Navigator Supervisor to support the Behavioral Health Navigation team!

The Behavioral Health Navigator Supervisor will oversee various Behavioral Health Navigators based at UPMC Hospitals in Pennsylvania, UPMC Western Maryland, and UPMC Chautauqua.

The shift for this position is Monday - Friday 8:00 - 4:30, but on-call hours will be required. Flexibility with shift is required. The incumbent will also be required to travel to sites where they oversee staff (UPMC Hospitals in Pennsylvania, UPMC Western Maryland, UPMC Chautauqua).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient/family assessments for emergency services, inpatient admissions, or outpatient psychiatric evaluations.

  • Complete required documentation, including psychiatric assessments and commitment paperwork.

  • Utilize DSMV for provisional diagnoses and ensure compliance with mental health laws.

  • Obtain necessary consents or authorizations.

  • Work independently in emergency and medical settings, manage crisis situations, and maintain a safe environment.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities and maintain competency requirements.

  • Mentor students and new employees, and utilize up-to-date technology for patient care.

  • Provide behavioral health education and treatment planning.

  • Handle a high volume of calls and respond to appointment or admission requests promptly.

  • Present cases to physicians and others and demonstrate triage and assessment skills.

  • Collaborate with healthcare teams, patients, families, and community resources to develop individualized care plans.

  • Lead shift responsibilities, provide support and problem-solving, and ensure documentation is complete.

  • Offer on-the-spot coaching, feedback to managers, and propose creative solutions to problems.

  • Serve as a leader in clinical practice, identify opportunities for improvement, and support staff during changes.

  • Assume formal leadership responsibilities, including quality improvement, scheduling, and staff evaluations.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work, with four years mental health experience required at time of hire. Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work with four years mental health experience required.

  • Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience. Please attach your transcript if your degree is not in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.

  • If the Master's Degree is not present at time of hire, must be enrolled in a Psychology, Counseling or Social Work Master's program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment.

  • Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience. Please attach your transcript if your degree is not in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.

  • Licensure in social work or professional counseling is preferred.,

  • Experience in a supervisory/charge position preferred.

  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment to both psychiatric and medical emergencies.

  • Ability to identify problems, implement resolution, reassesses situation/problem.

  • Excellent interpersonal relations with the ability to interact in a direct, professional, tactful, gracious manner with all professional/non-professional contacts; includes all areas of verbal/non-verbal communication within the contest of direct/non-direct contact; history of excellent interpersonal relations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to work under stress, with an unpredictable patient flow, in a sometimes-crowded work environment.

  • A personal disposition that is warm, friendly, caring, kind and hospitable towards patients, colleagues.

  • Exhibit openness and willingness to learn.

  • Flexible schedule; rotating shifts.

  • History/record of all above services consistently delivered with a service excellent attitude.

  • Ability and willingness to work in a managed care environment.

  • Excellent ability and history of direct, gracious, courteous, kind face to-face, telephone and nonverbal skills.

  • May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored.

  • No contact with medications is allowed. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
