UPMC Ophthalmic Technician I (UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician I to support the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Adult Motility. located at 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. This position will work Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm (some overtime is likely- starting a bit earlier or staying a bit later). Possible travel may be required at satellite offices in Bridgeville, Wexford, and Monroeville may be required.
The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Adult Motility at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is comprised of 3 clinic locations and one administrative space, all working as a team to provide the highest level of care to patients and families through clinical expertise, research initiatives, and strong administrative support
Purpose:
Obtain detailed information from patients and perform a variety of diagnostic tests to the eyes to aid in the diagnosis and treatment course
Responsibilities:
Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions
Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
Lensometry: automated and manual
Angle assessment & dilation of pupils
Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields
Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test
Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of
Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
Completing patient work ups/rooming patients and preparing them for their appointment
Assisting with ocular imaging
Completing medication authorizations
Maintaining and completing various clinic tasks such as ensuring the clinic and rooms are properly stocked
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
