Position Summary As a Design and Sustainability Engineer you will play a crucial role in supporting our Field Service Organization ensuring the sustainability and reliability of our equipment and the success of our Customers. You will be a subject matter expert when it comes to the electro-mechanical workings of our STERIS products while acting as a liaison between our Field Service Technicians, Technical Support, and R&D teams. You will be involved in the 3D modeling, Design Controls Documentation, Design Verification Testing, and Hands-on prototyping while developing new and innovative solutions for our Service organization.Using your expertise you will problem solve using techniques and engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, material science and thermodynamics to address design challenges. Due to the nature of the work, this role requires in-person / onsite work 5 days per week at our Plymouth Minnesota office. What will you do as a D/S Engineer? On a daily basis your primary responsibilities include; serviceability and reliability reviews, service documentation development, high-level troubleshooting/technical support on a focused product line, NPD support and initial product training to technical support personnel and service trainers. In addition but not limited to this you will: Providetechnical and part identification support to STERIS internal Field Service Technicians, R&D, Sales and other service operationson various models of STERIS products, past and present. TroubleshootSTERIS products and documents critical failures on corporation quality reporting system, initiates corrective action, and escalates issue to appropriate team. Assist with design, development, testing and reports on engineering projects. Problem solve using techniques and engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, material science and thermodynamics to address design challenges. Prepare design sketches and assists with developing design layouts and drawings for a variety of components, assemblies, processes or equipment in support of various projects. Provide initial product training to Technical Support, Service Trainers, and Field Technicians as needed. Coordinate the transition of training responsibilities to the Training Department and the transition of product support responsibility to the Technical Support group. Independently conduct design reviews for serviceability and reliability, generateservice plans for products and processes, developservice documentation and procedures, defineservice parts, outline service training and tracking equipment performance. Initiate the service bulletin process and/or writedraftsto inform the service organization of product changes, partsubstitutions, and maintenance modifications. Maintainproduct knowledge efficiencies onproducts as well as participate in qualification and serviceability of legacy and current STERIS products Assistwith review and recommends to appropriate engineering associate's changes to maintenance manuals, engineering drawings, and other service support reference guides/documentation. Escalatereported technical, quality, and safety related product complaints to appropriate engineering and management associates for corrective action. Provideperiodic product specific and technical skill training to department associates as required. Component / Sub Assembly level oversight. Actas an escalation point for resolution of complex technical issues. The Experience, Skills, and Abilities needed: Bachelor's degree inEngineering or related field. 2 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Similar working in a a highly regulated industry such as medical device. Experience and working knowled e of a variety of materials, technologies and manufacturing methods is desirable (Metals, plastics, welding, machining, forming,casting, molding) Experience with PLM software such as WindChill (Preferred), Enovia, or similar PLM systems. Experience using Creo (Preferred), PRO/E,Solidworks, AutoCad, Inventor, CATIA, or similar CAD software. Demonstrated computer knowledge to include word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail computer skills. Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of STERIS Healthcare and Life Science product lines, past and present is a plus. Ability to effectively resolve and communicate technical issues via telephone. Knowledge of engineering drawing, drafting work, wiring schematic practices preferred. Knowledge ofSurgical related products and orclinical protocols preferred.
