Work Type: PRN- Temporary

Hours Per Week: 36.00

Work Schedule: 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM

This position is a temporary, 36 hour/week, 12-week position with an enhanced pay rate!

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Manager Respiratory Therapy, the Respiratory Therapist monitors, evaluates and treats pediatric through geriatric cardiopulmonary patients with respiratory and/or cardiac impairment in accordance with physician directives, departmental protocols and in conjunction with nursing staff. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of the Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical ventilator initiation and management.

  • Insertion and/or care of artificial airways.

  • Patient assessment, medication administration and recommendation for therapy, interpretation of clinical data.

  • Airway clearance & bronchoscopy assist, as appropriate.

  • Participation in the Rapid Response Team, Code Team, Trauma Team, and Sepsis team, as applicable by member.

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds in critical care areas and participate in education of students/other staff.

  • Protect patients or staff members using safety equipment.

  • Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.

  • Demonstrate system values and integrates them into daily practice.

  • Actively support patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

  • Ability to influence others' actions and decisions without express authority.

  • Ability to act as a role model within the community.

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, database experience and other computer related skills.

  • May perform other duties upon request.

Other Information:

  • Graduate of a 2-year associate degree or a 4-year Baccalaureate Degree NBRC approved Respiratory Therapy Program.

  • Maine State professional license and meet the current license eligibility requirements of the NBRC.

  • BLS certification.

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficient practice in the role.

  • Fully trained to all specialty areas, including NICU/PICU if applicable.

  • Minimum of at least 2 years’ experience depending on education.

Education

  • Required Associate's Degree• Graduate of a 2-year associate degree or a 4-year Baccalaureate Degree NBRC approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
