Summary of Responsibilities

The Hotel Accountant provides the day-to-day financial and record-keeping operations for the Red Lion Hotel by Sonesta.

Primary Responsibilities and Objectives

Account Reconciliations:

  • Oversees various account reconciliations daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly.

  • Cash Receipts

  • AP/AR

  • General Ledger oversight

  • Research transaction history to resolve any unreconciled items.

    Accounts Receivable (A/R):

  • Process statements for A/R.

  • Manages and reconciles all accounts.

  • Collects accounts by sending statement reminders and communicating with clients via phone, email, fax, or mail.

  • Reconciles the accounts receivable ledger to subsidiary accounts to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.

  • Resolves outstanding AR by examining client loan agreements, and payment history and contacting clients.

  • Verifies validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating transactions.

  • Maintains client account for current contact information.

    Cash Receipts:

  • Verify daily deposits against bank statements.

  • Reconcile bank statements to general ledger cash balances.

General Accounting Duties:

  • Makes journal and ledger entries in accounting system as directed.

  • Produces monthly, quarterly, annual, and special reports as directed.

  • Maintain and process all taxes due to local agencies.

  • Preserves financial historical records by filing accounting documents.

  • Maintain month-end reconciliations of balance sheet and ensure all accounts balance.

Accounts Payable (AP):

  • Receive and enter all invoices

  • Remit payments to vendor within accounting system

  • Obtain and maintain vendor W9’s to be used for year-end tax reporting

  • Reconcile all payments to bank statements

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or another business-related field is required.

  • Twoor more years of experience in an accounting role is required.

Skills and Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge with MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel (including Excel functions).

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Scheduling

  • Typically, Monday-Friday 8am – 5pm

Environment

  • Exposure to environment typically found in an office building.
