What is a Senior Distribution Operator?
The Senior Distribution Operator – Distribution System Operations oversees the 24x7 operation of the gas and electric distribution systems. The position directs the continual operations of the electric and gas distribution systems by monitoring and impacting the performance of on shift personnel. The Senior Distribution Operator will have a crucial role in the development, testing and implementation of the ADMS system.
What does a Senior Distribution Operator?
Effectively oversees the safe and reliable operation of the gas and electric distribution systems; working in conjunction with field supervision, monitors and raises the overall performance, efficiency, and productivity of personnel during business hours and after-hours
Actively works on the development, testing and implementation of ADMS
Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training necessary to establish centralized Distribution System Operations
Establishes and maintains communication channels with the various operating divisions
Supervises union employees within the control room
Maintains a high level of proficiency in tools such as ADMS, MWM, OMS, ARCOS, and other related systems
Prioritizes all work associated with the Electric Distribution System
Keeps informed of industry best practices regarding Distribution System Operations
Provides assistance during major electric and gas emergency events
Continually seeks out new process improvements for Distribution System Operations to enhance operational performance and productivity
This is a rotating shift position
What does it take to be a Senior Distribution Operator?
Required:
Associate’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Science, or other technology related field with 1+ year of experience in control room operations, gas/electric utility experience, system protection, military technical or nuclear training. In lieu of an associate’s degree, candidates with a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 3+ years of experience in the areas listed above will be considered
Strong investigative and documentation skills; well-developed communication skills with a high attention to detail
Proficiency with computers and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, EMS/SCADA, Transmission Outage application, etc.)
Must be willing and available to work rotating shifts and successfully complete a personal risk assessment
Ability to prioritize tasks and perform duties effectively under emergency situations
Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
1+ year of supervisory experience
Strong working knowledge of gas and electric distribution system operations
