We are searching for the best talent for a Director, CAR-T Site Material and Logistics!

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines and Legend Biotech have entered into a global, strategic collaboration to develop, manufacture, and commercialize a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for BCMA. This strategic partnership is designed to combine the strengths and expertise of two companies to advance the promise of an immunotherapy CAR-T platform treatment.

The Director, CAR-T Site Material and Logistics is pivotal in steering the strategy and execution of operations related to on-site patient material cryopreservation, warehousing (both on-site and through third-party logistics providers), and the coordination of outbound logistics for finished drug product batches. In collaboration with the Vein-to-Vein Planning, Manufacturing Operations, Quality, Supply Chain Planning, Procurement, and Commercial Cell Therapy Operations, you will ensure the seamless management of material flows—including both raw materials and patient materials—throughout the manufacturing site. This role oversees a team of 4-6 direct reports and a larger workforce of approximately 100+ shift-based personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to operators, team leaders, and managers, fostering a positive work culture that empowers employees and cultivates high-performance teams.

  • Lead, train, and mentor batch logistics teams, facilitating in the timely release of patient-specific drug product batches.

  • Oversee third-party suppliers delivering warehousing, logistics, cryogenic storage, and laboratory services; addressing budgeting, capacity and long range financial planning needs.

  • Develop and manage long-term storage and warehousing strategies that support Raritan CAR-T and Lentivirus Operations, evaluating make-or-buy scenarios and ensuring alignment with long-term capacity projections.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Vein-to-Vein Planning and Commercial Operations, to enhance KPIs related to patient experience and turnaround times.

  • Coordinate with Vein-to-Vein and Commercial teams to ensure on-time releases of patient drug product batches.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs and production processes to drive efficiency, quality, and adherence to production schedules.

  • Facilitate the build-out and operational ramp-ups of in-house cell therapy cryopreservation capabilities.

  • Uphold and exemplify high standards of quality, compliance, and safety in all operations.

  • Strategize for talent development by broadening employees’ experiences and maintaining a commitment to excellence. Focus on building bench strength within the operations organization and ensuring robust succession planning.

  • Identify and contribute to the development and execution of initiatives aimed at continuous improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced productivity across the manufacturing facility.

Qualifications

Education:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a focus in Science or Engineering. Master’s or higher degree is preferred

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of combined experience in cGMP manufacturing, operations management, quality management or related area is required

  • Experience working in a sterile biological/pharmaceutical/medical device manufacturing environment is required

  • Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) is required

  • Strong people leadership including leading direct reports is required

  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced growth situation, with ability to adapt to changing environment required

  • Ability to balance day to day operational demands with the need to extend and improve the planning horizon to prepare strategically to manage future demands required

Preferred:

  • Experience in Advanced Therapies, Cell Therapies and/or CAR-T is preferred

Other:

  • This position is located in Raritan New Jersey and may require up to 5% domestic and/or International travel

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$146,000 to 251,850

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
