Scholastic VP Business Development & Strategy in Remote, Florida

Job Description:

Summary: As the Vice President of Business Development & Strategy at Scholastic School Reading Events, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction, directing strategic planning activities, and driving initiatives that contribute to the growth and success of our Book Fairs and Book Clubs businesses. Your primary focus will be to lead the Director of Business Development and Strategy and the broader strategy team in developing and executing comprehensive plans to expand our market presence, improve operational efficiencies and drive revenue.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and business plans to drive long-term growth and market expansion

  • Provide strategic direction to the Director of Business Development and Strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive threats.

Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor the strategy team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

  • Oversee the development and execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization's long-term vision and objectives.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration by working closely with other departments such as marketing, sales, operations, finance, and product teams.

Business Development and Innovation Oversight:

  • Develop and execute the company’s business development and growth strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals.

  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including potential partnerships, collaborations and acquisitions.

  • Review and guide market analysis and competitive research conducted by the Director of Business Development and Strategy.

  • Evaluate and provide insights on emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in the education and school-distribution markets.

  • Review and approve comprehensive plans for new strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall corporate strategy.

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

  • Work closely with the Director of Business Development and Strategy to organize, track, and execute cross-functional projects across the organization.

  • Drive the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and business impact.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Business Development and Strategy to identify and implement technology solutions and process improvements that enhance cross-departmental collaboration, operational efficiency, and growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of business and financial acumen with previous P&L responsibility a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate insights to actionable plans.

  • 10 years of experience in a strategic leadership role, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful strategic initiatives.

  • Experience in media, education, or technology sectors preferred, but not required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’ degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. MBA preferred, but not required.
