GE Vernova Application Engineer - Production Cost Analysis in Remote, Georgia

Job Description Summary

Consulting Services, a part of GE Vernova, provides advisory services both internally to a variety of GE portfolio businesses and externally to a wide range of global clients across a spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization projects.

The Power Economics practice sits within the Consulting Services business. The practice provides solutions to the electric power industry's challenges, analysis on electric power market economics and aid in policy analysis and investment decisions. The team also offers its clients detailed engineering and economic analyses focused on the financial and physical operation of electric power systems. This includes generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, system reliability, and energy policy evaluation and implication analysis.

The “Application Engineer- Production Cost Analysis" will work alongside practice team leaders to develop, lead, and successfully perform project work related to power system economics. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the broader power system and key principles affecting competitive power markets and power market economics. A successful candidate will be able and willing to learn how to use GE Vernova's Consulting Services' GE MAPS proprietary software or other comparable production cost modeling and be familiar with general power systems concepts. Candidates with programming/ coding language skills in Python or similar is a plus.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform economic analysis on power system and other projects and/or project scope items supporting the practice team leaders

  • Utilize GE Vernova’s MAPS software products to complete the requisite project analysis

  • Help develop new project work via responding to Request for Proposals, building on work with existing customers, and more

  • Present results via reports, PowerPoint presentations to variety of end-users, both internal and external

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • Mostly an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills. Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Provides informal guidance to new team members.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in the energy industry.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer sciences, economics, finance or related fields.

Desired Characteristics

  • MBA or Master's degree in engineering, computer sciences, economics, finance or related fields.

  • 1-3 years of experience in energy consulting, trading, power system planning, or similar field.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Experience with one or more of the following: production cost modeling (GE MAPS, PLEXOS, GridView, Aurora, etc.),resource adequacy models (GE MARS, SERVEM, etc.), or programming language (python, R, MATLAB, etc.).
