Jacobs Bridge Design Build Practice Leader in Reston, Virginia
Jacobs Transportation team is searching for a motivated and experienced Design Build Bridge Practice Lead who can utilize their strong technical and design management skills to deliver design build/ bridge infrastructure projects. This opportunity is your chance to lead structural design efforts on multi-disciplined design-build transportation projects throughout the nation with a focus on delivering design-build projects for our top Virginia Transportation clients and contractors.
As our D/B Bridge Practice Leader, you will:
• Act as a Structures Design Lead for pursuits and projects using alternative delivery methods
• Have the opportunity to help drive our strategy and business growth in the local design-build market and collaborate with others to drive our market growth.
• Lead a very talented and well-established team of structural professionals across offices in Reston, Arlington, Richmond and Virginia Beach.
• Interface with contractor clients through progression of the design deliverables.
• Deliver design build by ensuring the structural design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents.
• Establish structural scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project/Design Manager.
• You will be a Bridge discipline leader on large transportation projects throughout the Virginia and lead staff, project teams, perform preliminary and final design engineering and prepare documentation to satisfy the requirements for local and State roadway projects for our Virginia transportation top clients such as the Virginia DOT, DDOT and local county and city governments.
When you join us, you’ll have the opportunity to build and direct a growing D/B Bridge Group. We’ll look to you to provide technical leadership and oversee all aspects of design projects including design-build transportation projects, quality of engineering work performed, client satisfaction, and utilization of staff assigned on bridge engineering projects. You will direct and coordinate activities of design engineers and technicians to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budget. You will act as a mentor and assist design engineers & project managers in developing final design plans as well as participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.
You will work closely with Jacobs Client Account Managers, Client Service Leaders, and Sales Operations teams in pursuit of major design-build transportation opportunities in the area. This will be accomplished by advancing long-term existing relationships with transportation contractor clients, leading the development of execution strategies, and supporting proposal and presentation preparation activities. We’ll look to you to provide expertise in developing concepts for design approaches for major phases of large design-build bridge infrastructure projects. Extensive participation in internal team meetings/workshops and client workshops is anticipated.
In this role, you will provide overarching technical direction and client management strategy to the Jacobs transportation market sector team.
You will coordinate with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental) through technical preparation and supervision of roadway and planning design tasks, perform plan quality reviews and participate in value engineering studies.
To leverage technical capabilities and form synergies with other geographies for work sharing, we’ll ask you to actively engaging with Jacobs’ Solutions & Technology platform including Highway / Bridge market Regional Solutions Leaders. Additionally, you’ll represent Jacobs at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects. Actively participating in transportation and other professional associations such as DBIA ASHE, ASCE, TRB, AASHTO, VTCA, ACEC, WTS, etc. to establish, improve, and maintain a business network beneficial for personal development, to advance client knowledge and relationships, and to help identify future prospects.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• License as a Professional Engineer in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Substantial experience associated with the transportation market sector and with large transportation infrastructure projects, programs and D&B projects is required
• 10+ Years of relevant design experience in bridge engineering
• Proven track record of coordinating teams and winning work on an area or statewide basis within DMV region or the Mid-Atlantic geography.
• High level existing contacts and strong relationships with Contractors, VDOT, DDOT, other State & Local government clients, special districts, and private clients. Experience in stakeholder relationship development and management is required.
• Substantial professional project experience associated with the bridge market sector and with large transportation infrastructure projects and programs. Proven track record of bridge/structural design experience with VDOT, DDOT and MDOT.
