UnitedHealth Group Competitive Intelligence Analyst - Remote in Reston, Virginia

The Competitive Intelligence Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data to provide actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and Optum Serve’s opportunity pursuits. This role involves conducting comprehensive research and analysis of government contracts, solicitations, and competitive landscapes; gathering and evaluating data on competitors, including their capabilities, pricing strategies, and market positioning; developing detailed analyses of customer buying patterns, budgets, hot buttons, and priorities; and performing black hat reviews.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market research and analysis of the federal government market, including key trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape

  • Monitor and track government market trends, regulatory changes, political and policy development, technological advancements and innovation affecting government procurement

  • Conduct comprehensive research on competitive landscape and analysis on competitors, including their capabilities, bid strategies, behaviors, in support of our government contract pursuits

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business development, capture, and product teams to develop competitive strategies

  • Perform customer and competitor black hat reviews to support development of a winning proposal

  • Utilize various sources such as government databases, industry reports, and market research tools to collect relevant data

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings that communicate key findings and recommendations to capture team, senior leaders and other stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in business and competitive intelligence and market research within the federal government market

  • Experience and knowledge of government procurement processes, regulations, and policies

  • Experience and proficiency in gathering and analyzing government procurement data, buying trends, and budgets using a wide range of data sources and research tools

  • Experience with government databases (e.g., SAM.gov, FPDS) and market research platforms in the government market

  • Proven solid analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide clear, actionable insights

  • Proven solid organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously and prioritize effectively

  • Proven effective communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in business and competitive intelligence and market research within the federal government market

  • Experience in leading black hat sessions independently

  • Experience performing competitive intelligence work within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Defense Health Agency (DHA), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and other federal health customers sectors

  • Familiarity with Price-to-Win (PTW) methodologies

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
