Aerotek Machine Operator in Riceville, Iowa

Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

The machine operator position is responsible for operating machines and keeping production going. They work closely with the production team to maximize the efficiency of the operation. This is a day shift position, although needs to be flexible working 2nd and 3rd shift.

Hard Skills

  • Experience using welding equipment and procedures

  • Align equipment by using specialized tools

  • Make transitions from auger to auger or from auger to machine

  • Maintain equipment by performing preventative maintenance

  • Collect and inventory distinct machinery parts

  • Check for holes in pipes, legs, augers, etc.

  • Troubleshoot equipment for electrical and mechanical problems

  • Install, update, and repair equipment

  • Repair or replace valves and pumps (seals, steams, O rings, seats, bearings, etc.)

  • Perform basic electrical wiring (switches, outlets, starter, motor leads, etc.)

  • Perform basic pipe fitting

  • Change all types of bearings, power transmission belts, roller chains, couplings, hydraulic and pneumatic components, electric motors, gearboxes, and centrifugal pumps

  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, pumping, and steam systems, overhead hoists, and cranes

  • Perform routine tasks such as lubrication of machinery, bearing and seal replacements, roll changes, and cleaning of parts during overhauls and preventative maintenance routes

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds, climb ladders, and operate a pallet jack with 2,000 pounds of material

  • Ability to weld and use a cutting torch

  • Use of precision instruments to align and measure equipment that is being installed or modified

  • Ability to use common power tools including saws, drills, and grinders

  • Knowledge of standard and metric size hand tools including wrenches, sockets, allen keys, bits, and taps

  • Ability to construct, assemble, repair, and dismantle machinery and equipment using tools such as hammers, wrenches, crowbars, rollers, dollies, hoists, and other hand tools

  • Ability to understand schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans, and other specifications required for the job

  • Experience working with equipment such as boom lifts and scissor lifts

Soft Skills

  • Ability to work closely with production workers

  • Flexibility to take calls on second shift

  • Attention to detail

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication skills
