The Richmond campus of Bryant & Stratton College is currently accepting applications for a full-time Senior Academic Advisor: Nursing.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Advising of continuing and new students based on program requirements, academic and financial aid guidelines, and test results.

  • Convey to and discuss with student the necessary aspects of curriculum, course sequencing, academic status, registration, financial responsibility related to educational loans and the importance of long-term career and academic planning.

  • Schedule students effectively according to program planning grids and back up other advisors as needed for their program registration.

  • Maintain direct and proactive contact with student advisees. This includes meeting with individuals as well as small groups on an ongoing basis to build rapport, identify barriers to success, set and review (and revise when necessary) academic and career goals and develop action plans for related success.

  • Actively initiate and continue ongoing guidance to students whose grades, attendance, and/or personal barriers put them at risk.

  • Collaborate with program directors to identify and address student needs.

  • Build and nurture ongoing relationships with students.

  • Actively assist in the mentoring and coaching of Academic Advisors through participation in advisement observations, development of advisor learning plans, semester staff development meetings and assisting advisors in initiating and planning for meetings with peers from other departments.

  • Monitor program outcomes and requirements to ensure compliance with the Official College Catalog and to assure current knowledge of program offerings from a career and employment perspective.

  • Monitor registration and grade reports and follow up with students, program directors, financial aid, and/or admissions.

  • Actively initiate campaigns to encourage early registration, book orders, etc.

  • Manage registration processes to achieve early registration and meet registration benchmarks for campus.

  • Support and assist in reviewing all key departmental operations including tracking statistics, proper file documentation, retention assessments, and planning documents.

Required Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years previous advising experience working with students in an educational environment, preferably with a diverse student population.

  • Exceptional customer service, listening, and teamwork skills.

  • Experience in tracking student success rates.

  • Proficient knowledge of Excel.

  • Knowledge of campus software such as Banner, MYBSC and the ability to train others within these systems a plus.

  • An outgoing, approachable style and a passion for helping students succeed.

  • Leadership skills to train co-workers and implement processes to support department success.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.

  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team to meet overall campus goals.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Available to work required hours to meet needs of programs and students.
