LifePoint Health Cath Lab Technologist in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Cath Lab Technologists for our Cardiac Catheterization Lab. The Cath Lab Tech performs all duties of the Cath Lab (circulate, scrub, monitor, and data entry) within established limitations of certification. Provides care to adult and geriatric patients. Participates with all members of the Catheterization team to provide and maintain optimal patient outcome. Participates, with the Cath Lab Manager, in continuous quality improvement.

Essential Functions:

In partnership with a Registered Nurse:

Provides direct patient care in a personalized, efficient care with respect for patients’ spiritual and cultural differences.

Considers factors related to safety and effectiveness of and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Reinforces individualized patient and family teaching.

Makes decisions and judgments in preventing, analyzing, and resolving patient care concern.

Reports patient status, refers problems when necessary and anticipates situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes.

Monitors and collects data on patient pain.

Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and employee-related information.

Attends and participates as a minimum requirement of 6 Staff meetings annually. Reads and signs off all staff meeting minutes of meeting not attended.

Participates in Performance Improvement unit-based activities and hospital-based activities under the direction of Cath Lab Manager.

Commits to Service Excellence and continually strives toward achievement of the Standards of Care.

Demonstrates ability to adapt to various age specific patient populations.

Unit Specific - Cardiac Catheterization Lab:

Clinical:

Understands and applies principles of aseptic technique.

Assists RN with patient care within the Cath Lab. Provides accurate documentation of care given.

Acts as a resource for technicians, secretaries and other staff.

Is able to perform the duties and roles in the Cath Lab within established limitations of certification (circulate, scrub, and monitor).

Provides input in the development of policies, procedures, quality control and marketing of the Cath Lab.

Able to operate and maintain all equipment in accord with instructions, policies and procedures. Notifies the Cath Lab Manager and/or Charge RN of any problems with equipment.

Restocks supplies; checks for expiration dates and informs the Manager of impending out of stock items.

Responsible for cleaning Cath Lab, equipment and holding area between procedures according to infection control policy and procedures.

Maintains clinical competency.

Follows safety procedures and guidelines. Reports unsafe conditions.

Maintains safe handling of hazardous and infectious materials in accordance with Hospital policy.

Enters complete and accurate data into the established database.

Uses computer system for work related activities. Safeguards all computer information and maintains confidentiality.

Adheres to time scheduling exhibiting flexibility. Assumes on call responsibility.

Uses effective communication skills.

Education:

Assists in the orientation and continuing education of new staff and other staff members.

Attends department programs – fire, safety, electrical, infection control, radiation and required education.

Assists in providing pre, intra, and post catheterization teaching for patients and their families.

Promotes cardiac education programs in the community and within the system.

Maintains educational competency, including age specific education.

Quality Assurance:

Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement projects both within the department and within the system as appropriate.

Is able to perform all quality controls on equipment within the department. Notifies the appropriate people when the controls are out of normal range.

Enter complete and accurate data into the established database.

Job Requirements: * *Education:

Required:High school graduate or equivalent; associate degree in related (Radiology, Surg Tech) field or graduate of allied health care program.

Minimum Work Experience:

Required:Basic computer skills.

Preferred:Knowledge of Access database, 2 years’ experience in Cath Lab; working knowledge of Cath Lab equipment.

RequiredCertifications:

Required:CPR Certification.

Required:ARRT Certification.

Required:ACLS Certification.

Required Skills:

Ability to apply knowledge base, physical task and interpersonal skills.

Ability to provide age/developmental specific patient care under the direction of RN.
