Job Description Summary

Nazareth University seeks a dynamic and student-centered professional to lead efforts in supporting student transition from deposit to matriculation and beyond. The Associate Director of First Year Experience and Students in Transition is pivotal in ensuring seamless and supportive transitions for students in the University community. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Campus Life, the Associate Director oversees key programs, including New Student Fall and Spring Orientation, Welcome Week events, Peer Leader and Residential Life Student Leader training and hiring, and Commencement and Senior Week events. This role is also a key partner with Admissions and supports specific strategic enrollment initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Orientation

  • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive orientation programs to welcome and acclimate new students, including Fall and Spring Orientations.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure programming addresses academic, social, and cultural aspects of the college experience.

  • Oversee logistics, including scheduling, communications, and event execution for both orientations.

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of the Pre-Orientation Moodle Course and ensure new students complete the course.

  • Lead efforts to support student transition from deposit to matriculation, coordinating outreach, engagement, and onboarding experiences to enhance student connection and preparedness.

  • Serve as a main point of contact/concierge for all deposited undergraduate students prior to their arrival on campus for their first semester.

  • Co-Chair the First Year Experience Committee.

  • Partner with Student Engagement and Leadership to plan and implement a robust series of welcome activities for the first six weeks of the fall semester to help new students build connections, integrate students into campus life, and provide diverse programming that meets the needs of all students.

  • Assess the effectiveness of welcome activities to ensure they foster engagement and retention.

  • Use data to inform decision-making and enhance the student transition experience.

  • Act as an advocate for new students, ensuring their needs are represented in institutional planning and decision-making.

  • Student Leader Recruitment and Training

  • Develop and lead the recruitment and hiring of Campus Life Student Leaders, specifically Peer Leaders and Residential Life Student Leaders.

  • Oversee the planning and execution of Fall and Spring Training for Professional and Paraprofessional staff to equip them with skills to support new and returning students.

  • Senior Week Events

  • Plan and execute Senior Week activities, ensuring a celebratory and meaningful experience for graduating students.

  • Support Commencement events, including but not limited to 100 Days Celebration, Commencement, etc.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to manage event logistics, budgets, and communications.

  • Strategic Enrollment and Admissions Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary contact for Admissions as they build partnerships with constituent school districts.

  • Collaborate with Admissions to develop and implement outreach initiatives that support prospective students from these districts to ensure a smooth transition to Naz.

  • Facilitate programming and resources that address the unique needs of students transitioning from these communities.

  • Retention and Student Success Initiatives

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Academic Thriving and EAB Navigate Student Success team to establish and manage a shared strategy for improving student retention rates and to ensure academic persistence for at-risk student populations.

  • Build strong working relationships with campus partners, including the Office for Diversity & Inclusive Excellence Education, Health & Counseling, Center for Life’s Work, Alumni and Constituent Engagement, Academic Success and Accessibility, and other key offices.

  • Other Responsibilities:

  • Teach one section of ACS 101

  • Manage program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with institutional goals.

  • Advances the College’s DEIB strategic plan initiatives through campus-wide programming and student leader training and development.

  • Serves on division and university-wide committees.

    Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required

    Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field preferred

    Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise Peer Leaders during Orientation

    Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, moderate computer use, and occasional lifting or moving of light objects.

    Equipment to be used
