As a Crew Chief, you will efficiently utilize all field equipment within company inventory, including Trimble, robotic total stations, data collectors, auto-levels, GPS RTK Units, wireless communications, and 3D Laser Scanners. You will be responsible for proper file documentation and organization at project completion and ensure seamless communication with team members.
Responsibilities
Upload and download field data files (raw, fbk, asc), photos, field notes, and review with office staff.
Interpret maps, determine distances, read map symbols, and understand survey types and their purposes.
Maintain equipment by keeping tripods, tribrachs, prism poles clean and calibrated, and schedule maintenance as needed.
Identify efficient ways to perform tasks and follow through.
Function without data collectors or other equipment in case of failures.
Utilize general computer functions and applications such as Windows Explorer, Word, and Excel.
Take on increased responsibilities and expand knowledge through training.
Work overtime and travel with overnight stays if required.
Ensure equipment is set up safely with proper safety gear.
Provide utility documentation including checklists and sketches, ensure quality of field notes, raw data, coordinate files, and sketches.
Perform construction-related survey tasks, including stakeout of building foundations, column lines, curbs, sidewalks, walls, grading, LOD, and site infrastructure.
Maintain professional presence on site, assist in conversing with site superintendent, client, and office staff, and offer solutions to achieve job objectives.
Perform field calculations to modify stakeout when necessary.
Maintain company vehicle inventory and ensure it is well-stocked.
Self-organize and motivate while working alone, supervise and motivate instrument operators when assigned.
Utilize in-house checklists for quality control and effective time management.
Represent the brand positively while communicating professionally with customers on site.
Complete any other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
5 years of experience in surveying.
Proficiency in software such as Trimble, AutoCAD, and Carlson.
Valid driver’s license.
Experience with commercial projects.
Strong communication skills.
Proficiency in surveying, topography, land surveying, topographic surveys, ALTA, GPS, and Civil 3D.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma and strong math and computer skills.
Desire to expand skillsets and adapt to new technologies.
Highly proficient in field coding for field to finish auto linework.
Ability to complete additional certifications such as OSHA, Hazwoper, TWIC, etc.
Dependability and punctuality.
Work Environment
Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and stand/walk for 8+ hours a day. The role requires extensive bending, kneeling, standing, climbing, hiking, digging/shoveling, and lifting. Exposure to all weather conditions, such as hot, cold, wet, and humid environments, is expected. The Crew Chief will work in the field with the survey crew, often on busy streets or construction sites, with exposure to vehicular traffic and loud noise. The role may incur mental stress due to deadlines, pressures, and demands from internal and external sources. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $66560.00 - $83200.00/yr.
