GROUNDS AND LANDSCAPE ASSISTANT

Support and actively engage in company growth, goals and objectives as it relates to the daily grounds maintenance and landscaping for company facilities as well as various properties located within the mid-Michigan area. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  Perform a variety of tasks. Have the ability to work under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, watering, fertilizing, etc 
  • Snow plowing and snow removal
  • Monitoring turf and ornamentals for disease, insects, & rodent damage 
  • Equipment maintenance 
  • Assist NCRS with various tasks and special projects as needed 
  • Assist with record keeping of preventative maintenance program for grounds equipment.
  • Tree maintenance including planting trees, removal of trees, blocking, splitting, and stacking of wood
  • Under direction; apply fertilizer & pesticide sprays for turf and ornamentals and keep record of applications
  • Irrigation systems scheduling, maintenance and repair
  • Trash pickup and cleanup
  • Daily communications with supervisor, NCRS and/or Facilities Department staff members
  • Weekly reports to supervisor and department manager
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and protocols at all times.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management

Qualifications:

  • Work experience in landscaping/grounds maintenance field or related field
  • Knowledge of job related machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair & maintenance
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, squat, stoop for extended periods of time and move over 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working primarily outside
  • Follow specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work
  • General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • The ability to communicate efficiently and effectively through the use of email, phone, or face to face conversation to convey information accurately
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain one
  • Chauffeurs license or the ability to obtain one
