TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E283 Transportation Engineer II, III or IV in San Antonio, Texas

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Trains engineering staff.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions.Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIIn addition to the duties listed abovePerforms advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.Transportation Engineer IVIn addition to the duties listed abovePerforms highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Trains engineering staff.
