USAA Hiring our Hero's Military Fellowship - Project Manager Lead in San Antonio, Texas

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated Project Manager Lead to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 24-3 with USAA. This is a Hybrid opportunity for our San Antonio, TX location only.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

We are seeking a Project Management Lead with expertise in performing and delivering complex work efforts to achieve business goals efficiently. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of how activities align with strategic objectives and program requirements while collaborating effectively with partners and project teams. Job Requirements

  • Drives implementation of moderately to highly complex work efforts, typically requiring confidentiality and enterprise-level transparency within a program to achieve strategic business goals and operational objectives.

  • Works closely with cross-functional teams and resources to achieve work efforts and landmarks within established timeframes and program guidelines.

  • Leads risk by using established risk management practices to address execution challenges associated with quality, schedule, and costs, in adherence with risk management framework.

  • Accountable for planning, directing, delegating, and coordinating activities for moderately complex work efforts to accomplish goals and objectives within a specified timeframe, scope, and budget.

  • Monitors and reports on business objectives, work efforts achievements, and key indicators and communicate trends to project team members.

  • Communicates with work efforts partners and executive/senior management and provides insight on issues through root cause analyses.

  • Facilitates collaboration on creative alternatives to project challenges and resolves issues / removes obstacles with subject matter authorities.

  • Removes obstacles and impediments to ensure business and operational objectives are met.

  • Develops, tracks, and maintains work effort(s) budgets that may include vital capital expenditures, operational expenses, and labor funding requirements.

  • Handles ambiguity and consistently seeks to drive clarity among work effort(s) partners.

  • Defines the control and the overall delivery of the work efforts to meet the goals, objectives, and success criteria.

  • Establishes overall cadence for communication with impacted partners and provides framework for underlying work efforts(s) communication plans.

  • Identifies and resolves interdependencies of work within work effort(s).

  • Participates in work effort(s) closure activities to settle benefit / business impact realization to include retrospective management.

  • Proactively runs risk by using work efforts management practices to address execution challenges associated with quality, schedule and cost and supports partner concern to resolve.

  • Drives adoption and challenges standards. Leads subject matter authorities.

  • Drives the adoption and sustainment of changes within the organization in compliance with USAA’s Organizational Change methodology.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, supervised, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Minimum Experience

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of proven experience in project or program management, including planning, tracking and delivery.

  • Expert knowledge of project management tools and methodologies.

  • Experience on project and program management and execution experience delivering complex work efforts working with recognized program and/or project methodologies (e.g., Waterfall and Agile).

  • Collaboration skills in a matrixed environment including providing consultative mentorship to help solve enterprise level issues.

  • Extensive experience leading complex projects with significant number of results including information technology and dependencies across organization; working within defined scope and budgets with ambitious timelines.

  • Extensive understanding of risk management policies and procedures.

Preferred Experience

  • Current participant in the Hiring Our Hero's Fellowship Programs 24-3 Cohort, or the Non Direct HOH Fellowship 24-2

  • Ability to lead multiple cross-functional projects concurrently

  • Expert level skills with Microsoft office; PowerPoint, Word, Excel

  • Comfortable working with large sets of data to show trends and tell a story

  • Excellent interpersonal communications and effective writing, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Proven work principles such as initiative, innovativeness, attention to detail and a focus on results.

  • PMP Certification preferred

  • Process improvement experience preferred

Compensation

Hiring Our Heroes fellows are paid by the HOH program.

If selected for a full-time role, USAA has an efficient process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain driven. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. A geographic differential and/or shift premium may be applicable for this role, depending upon where and when this job is performed. The salary range for this position is: $99,160 - $189,530

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
