Amazon Director, Private Equity in San Francisco, California

Do you want to lead a global team focused on building relationships with the top private equity (PE) firms in the world? Do you have the strategic thinking, relationship building skills, technical depth, and executive level communication skills needed to help further establish AWS as the leader within the PE industry? The PE industry is looking for new ways to create value for their portfolio companies. Technical and digital transformation, increased agility, retirement of technical debt and assistance migrating their companies to the cloud are all increasingly becoming an important level for them to utilize. AWS is looking for a Director, Private Equity, who understands business trends impacting the PE industry and who is passionate and capable of driving market development globally for AWS, leveraging the richness of the AWS cloud computing platform to position and drive the right technology solutions to the portfolio companies of the PE firms, and also to create programs for the PE firms themselves.

Your responsibilities will include managing a cross-functional team focused on building relationships with PE firms so as to develop access to their portfolio companies, and who can provide influence over their portfolio companies. Your leadership will be global in scope and you will be responsible for the development of all strategies and programs for this function. As part of this leadership position, you and your team will be engaging with high profile PE executives who exhibit a material amount of influence in the IT industry and over their portfolio. You will be expected to attend and speak at a number of PE related events, including CxO meetings and conferences. You will also work closely with AWS Field Seller, Private Pricing, Partner and Solutions Architects teams to develop and promote cloud and GenAI solutions, as well as migration opportunities for the PE portfolio companies. As Director, Private Equity you will be a part of the sales organization, driving revenue by building relationships with Partners of Private Equity companies, to advance AWS adoption within portfolio companies.

  • Scale out an integrated go-to-market team in a highly complex environment

  • Develop and execute against a set of goals including customer references, support, professional services, and training

  • Develop and deliver compelling ROI to drive adoption of AWS Gen AI solutions by collaborating cross-functionally to continuously strengthen AWS's GenAI value proposition

  • Develop relationships and engage with cross-functional and partner ecosystems to extend reach and drive adoption

  • Build and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to further adoption of AWS services in the market

  • Support all AWS operating cadences and represent a consolidated view of the Private Equity customer segment to senior AWS leaders

  • Guide a Customer Obsessed business that delights our customers

  • Expect 50%+ travel to visit customers and travel

Basic Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience working closely with influential and high-profile executives, preferably in the private equity (PE) industry.

  • He/She will have experience interacting at the CXO/VP level, with a good understanding of Cloud or related technology. He/She will think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions and work cross-organizationally to build consensus.

  • Have a keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness are critical.

  • The right person will be technical and analytical, and possess at least 10-15 years of executive leadership experience in sales.

  • Have existing CXO relationships, with a large network in more than one industry.

  • Strong leadership skills are key, with superior verbal and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.

  • Relevant technical knowledge is helpful, including in areas such as: database systems, IoT, core distributed computing concepts, fundamentals of cloud computing and virtualization, storage systems, etc.

  • The ability to go deep on relevant trends in the PE industry and understand the world of this customer segment.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science and MBA or other relevant advanced degree.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $232,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $345,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
