General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for part-time instructors to teach freshman courses in American Government in the Humanities & Social Sciences department.

Remuneration for this position is: $915 per lecture hour/$819 per lab hour.

In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Candidates that submit their information may or may not be notified as to the status of their application.

Typical Work Activities

• Teach courses in the delivery format agreed upon

• Track attendance as needed

• Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester

• Report grades at the conclusion of the semester

Essential Functions

Ability to work with, and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or related field and a Master’s degree in Political Science or related field. Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.

Desirable Qualifications

ABD or Ph.D. in Political Science or related field; prior teaching experience at the college level; and experience with classroom technologies. Online teaching experience. Evidence of successful teaching of non-traditional students.
