Umbra Lab Project Manager in Santa Barbara, California

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to support our Business Operations team. This role will focus on managing projects across various functions including finance, HR, facilities, and other business operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, excellent organizational skills, and experience with agile development methodologies. This person will report into the Product group, which endeavors to design and adapt solutions in a complex cyber-physical system and align cross-functional development teams around business objectives through agile practices. This role is required to work in our Santa Barbara CA office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management:

  • Plan, execute, and oversee projects within the business operations domain, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations.

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, status reports, and risk management plans.

  • Prepare and present project updates and performance reports to senior leadership as needed.

  • Agile Methodologies:

  • Utilize Umbra’s agile methodologies to manage and deliver projects effectively.

  • Facilitate agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and reviews.

  • Foster a collaborative environment and promote agile best practices.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in project management and business operations.

  • Stakeholder Management:

  • Liaise with various departments including finance, HR, facilities, legal, and IT to ensure project alignment and support.

  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and senior leadership.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain strong working relationships.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience working in a technical product, program, or project management role.

  • Proven experience with agile development methodologies.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficient in project management software, specifically Atlassian/Jira.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence to interact and empathize with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams, and customers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in change management and process improvement initiatives.

  • Industry expertise in government programs, GIS, SAR, B2B SaaS, and/or aerospace.

  • Proven track record driving products and features to market in a highly technical environment.

  • Experience with developing commercial API products that support a customer developer experience.

  • Certifications in PMP (Project Management Professional), CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), CSM (Certified Scrum Master), or PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) are highly desirable.

We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function and level benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by skills, responsibilities and relevant work experience.
