Overview:The Systems Engineer I is responsible for providing support to the IT Infrastructure team and the Business on all elements of the distributed computing environment including Windows/Linux servers and associated applications, network security, data storage and backups, virtualization, disaster recovery, and data center design and monitoring. This includes installs, configurations, operating system management, application software, and system management tools.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors workload and assigned work including help desk tickets assigned to the team, makes sure project tasks are progressing according to schedule, and tickets are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and software problems, including end-user desktop PCs and enterprise data servers.

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools

  • Define, test, and, where required, perform system backups and recovery procedures to ensure full data retrieval.

  • Ability to manage and apply updates (patches) to servers running on-premises or in other cloud environments, using patch management technology (like SCCM or Azure ARC).

  • Ability to use MDM tools like Microsoft Intune to effectively manage and deploy software updates (patches) across a fleet of devices, including configuring update rings, setting deployment schedules, prioritizing critical patches, and monitoring patch installation status.

  • Installation, Configuration & Support of Microsoft Office 365

  • Managing & Troubleshooting Azure AD Connect, Active Directory, and VM's

  • Monitor and test system performance; provide statistics and reports.

  • Monitor and analyze e-mail system activities to ensure maximum performance, efficiency, and availability.

  • Manage servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.

  • Develop technical documentation and system diagrams

  • Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.

  • Ensure that servers comply with established policies, standards, software licensing agreements, and configuration guidelines.

  • Recommend and execute modifications to systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security.

  • Review and deploy new service packs, hotfixes, system updates, and vendor-supplied patches to servers according to best practices.

  • Participate in the design and review of new Windows systems and Windows-based application server deployments.

  • Coordinate with the change management team to ensure production release procedures are properly completed prior to implementation of changes in production.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field required. Masters degree desired.

  • Minimum of 4 yrs IT experience with demonstrated experience working in collaborative IT teams.

  • Minimum of 4 yrs previous experience supporting all aspects of a large enterprise network.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Industry-standard certification(s) covering the following Microsoft technologies: Exchange, SQL, Active Directory.

  • Industry-standard certification(s) covering the following: servers/systems, virtualization

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Business process and re-engineering experience, as well as an understanding of the relationship between processes and policies.

  • Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.

  • Proven ability to multi-task and operate in a dynamic enterprise environment.

  • Initiative in the absence of direction

  • Highly motivated with an ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Proven ability to deliver solutions for complex issues even in an "un-supported" configuration

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • In-depth understanding of client-server systems, wide-area networks, data storage systems, and data center operations.

  • Working knowledge of NAS and/or SAN storage technologies.

  • Working knowledge of server hardware.

  • Experience installing and supporting VMWare technologies including ESX, vCenter, vSAN, etc.

  • Demonstrated expertise supporting Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft SQL.

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience specifying, installing, and maintaining data center technologies including UPS, PDUs, AC, environmental monitoring, and physical security systems.

  • Experience supporting Disaster Recovery Sites and related technologies.

  • Documented technical training or certification in Microsoft, Cisco or other IT technologies highly desirable.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

III.Work Environment

  • Office and refrigerated manufacturing/distribution environments.

  • This is primarily a first-shift position, but adjustments to shift start/end times may be required depending on future production support schedules.

  • Availability for on-call during non-business hours is required.

  • After-hours and weekend work is required for system troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades.
