The College of Arts & Sciences has an exciting opening for an Assistant Director of Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.
As a key member of the College of Arts & Sciences Development Team, the Assistant Director of Development will complement College-wide major gift strategies by developing the donor pipeline for the College. This position will assist with qualification and prospect discovery efforts, executing annual giving programs, and maintaining and promoting lifelong relationships with the University. They will create opportunities that encourage alumni and friends to support, interact and connect with the University and serve to develop the pipeline of donors at the College.
This position helps translate the College’s vision and strategic plan to diverse audiences and builds strong relationships between prospective donors and the College of Arts & Sciences in service of developing opportunities and successful invitations to invest in students, faculty, programs and research.
What You Will Do: Fundraising (60%)
• Manage a portfolio of alumni, non-alumni, and organizational donors and prospects. • Identify, cultivate, solicit, negotiate and close annual leadership gifts (between $1,000-$25,000). • Proactively qualify alumni and individual donor prospects through phone calls and emails. • Serve as a discovery officer for new prospects who have the capacity and inclination for making major gifts ($25,000+) or planned gifts. Prospects will be identified through multiple sources including prospect research, prospect tracking tools, existing donor databases and fundraising colleagues. • In collaboration with major gift officers, plan and execute strategic discovery activities that lead to prospect qualification and follow-up. • Conduct thank-you phone calls to donors for purposes of stewardship and discovery. • Create and develop reports, project analysis, graphics, spreadsheets and other customized collateral, as needed, to evaluate outreach success.
Annual Giving and Engagement (20%)
• Provide support of engagement opportunities for prospects, donors and alumni, such as advisory board activities, department/division/College events, and Husky Giving Day. • Pull lists from the donor database, review and prioritize attendee lists, provide giving histories, and support fundraisers in developing briefings and talking points for engagement events. • Partner with Development team to file contact reports.
Stewardship (15%)
• Steward leadership-level annual philanthropy donors through University-wide programs such as the President’s Circle.
Other duties as assigned (5%)
• Attend meetings and participate in College of Arts & Sciences events and activities, as appropriate. • Participate in professional development activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree and three years of progressively responsible experience in project management, writing, fundraising or related field.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. What You Bring:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases and forms. • Demonstrated flexibility and initiative to work on a variety of tasks and a wide range of people (donors, volunteers and faculty). • Demonstrated creativity, top organizational ability and strict attention to detail. • Strong project management and planning skills. • Executive decision-making ability along with a high level of discretion and tact when working with possible donors and alumni. • Clear and consistent communication skills.
What You Can Expect:
• Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions. • Some evening and weekend hours will be required on short or limited notice. • Some local travel will be required.
