The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Preconstruction Manager to join the team as a member of our growing New Construction Mechanical Western Washington division. Some responsibilities you will have include:

Project Management

  • Taking a high-level request, digging into what actually needs to be delivered and then organizing and delegating tasks to a team to deliver a high-quality end product

  • Managing the demands of multiple projects and pursuits simultaneously

  • Learning enthusiastically to develop your personal knowledge and then distilling that into critical information to share with team members

  • Communicating with external stakeholders such as a General Contractor, Architect, Engineer, Owner, to provide clarity and build strong working relationships

  • Building a trusted internal network to facilitate teamwork and a sense of comradery

  • Taking technical challenges/needs/requests and translating them into common language for non-technical audiences

  • Identifying and tracking risks and opportunities within a budget as well as within a project

  • Generating preliminary assessments, technical solutions, fee proposals, presentations, studies, and general support.

  • Partnering with engineering teams (internal and external) to manage milestones, costs and project goals throughout design development

  • Transitioning project management and engineer activities from design to construction phase

  • Supporting and providing input to development strategies, goals, and objectives specific to project execution at each project phase.

  • Assisting the business development team in responding to requests for proposal and bid process.

Process Execution and Improvement

  • Continuous improvement and identifying how to get tasks done more effectively/efficiently

  • Creating standard processes and training stakeholders on them

  • Owning cost management logs to track project scope changes throughout design development

  • Assuming financial responsibility for projects including accurate, timely and relevant reporting to stakeholders.

  • Facilitating invoice payments from clients and to subcontractors.

  • Preparing client and subcontractor change orders.

  • Assessing any potential job cost impacts submits, negotiates and tracks all change orders requests.

  • Reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications and other resources to answer questions in a timely manner.

  • Evaluating bid estimates, develops cost codes, establishes definitive budgets,

  • Monitoring progress towards goals to anticipate potential problems.

  • Delivering accurate and timely data to support project forecasts.

Team Management

  • Coaching and mentoring project team members.

  • Developing project staffing plans to include labor, subcontractors, etc.

  • Acting as a steward of McKinstry culture; communicate and influence policies and procedures.

  • Establishing and leading associated meetings.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience required.

  • Five (5) years of experience in project management, engineering, or construction is required.

  • Proficient with scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera and/or Suretrak required.

  • Completed OSHA 30 class is required.

  • Experience working for a General Contractor or Major Mechanical Subcontractor preferred.

T he pay range for this position is $82.240- $145,200 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
