Amazon Software Development Manager, FireTV System Engineering in Seattle, Washington

Description

Lead a team that innovates and creates new frameworks and solutions at the Operating System (OS) level of the Fire TV devices. Obsess about millions of customers by deploying performant and scalable solutions written in Rust and C++.

The Fire TV System Engineering group is looking for a manager for the Architecture Solutions team, which owns a roadmap of core deliverables that lay the foundation for our device software. The team works on Linux based streaming media devices and TVs and has a mission to improve the performance of the devices and support the growth of Fire TV.

Key job responsibilities

Lead day-2-day development work

Make priority calls and trade-offs

Own the 3-year technical roadmap, define and drive goals

Partner with Product Management and key internal stakeholders

Build a highly performing team and obsess about the career development and growth of engineers

A day in the life

Attend scrum meetings

Meet with individual team members in 1:1s

Review designs and critical code submissions

Dogfood and test new prototypes and already shipped devices

Meet with key partner teams and internal customers who are using your components and solutions

About the team

The team is a 2-pizza group of experienced embedded developers, spread across 3 key development centers in the US.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Knowledge of Operating Systems internals, Hands-on experience from device development using Android and/or Yocto Linux, and a background in native development using C/C++/Rust

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
