For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Primary Role_ Responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water/wastewater quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities. Responsible for organizing functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for assigned facility. Responsible for maintaining all applicable lab certifications, accreditations, or approvals to conduct compliance and process quality control work. Implements the day to day collection of water quality samples. Implements programs to ensure environmental compliance. Assists in resolving treatment issues. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water/wastewater quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities. * Obtain, prepare, file, and maintain all regulatory reports and records. Manage required permits and make any necessary modifications and renewals. Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers. Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations * Monitor/calibrate and troubleshoot analyzers, equipment, etc. to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained * Conduct special projects and prepare reports as needed * Work with internal and external customers to build good relationships and solve laboratory issues. * Evaluate and monitor supplies and other laboratory costs to assist in maintaining the lab budget. * Assists in planning, preparation, and controlling the portion of the financial plan relating to responsibilities _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques and QA/QC programs. * Knowledge of regulatory requirements. * Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access. * Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations. * Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods. * Must understand principles of water and/or wastewater treatment and be able to troubleshoot systems. _ Experience/Education_ * Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's preferred. * 4 yr degree in physical, chemical or environmental sciences may be substituted for experience. * Minimum Two (2) to four (4) years experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance. * Work schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM & on-call responsibility. _ Travel Requirements_ * Must be able to commute to our facilities in Short Hills and Long Hill Township regularly * Additional local and regional travel may be required _ Other_ * Must hold a valid State issued Driver’s License with the ability to pass a motor vehicle check * Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. * Ability to lift 35 lbs.
