POSITION TITLE: Title III Instructional Resource Specialist - Part Time Grant Funded for one school year Bilingual Services Department RECRUITED BY: Director of Bilingual Services IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Bilingual Services Building Principal LOCATION AND HOURS St. Adalbert, Tuesday - Thursday, Five (5) Hours daily Hourly Rate: Based on Experience & Determined by St. Adalbert POSITION SUMMARY: Candidate should have the ability to understand and accept the Mission of the South Bend Community School Corporation in reference to the education of English Learners (ELs). Candidate should have basic knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology. Candidate must be able to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals. QUALIFICATIONS: 60 college credits or Associate’s Degree preferred Able to pass English Language Proficiency Assessment (oral, if applicable) Pass ParaPro Assessment (if applicable) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish, English/Other) Have good organizational skills and initiative. Use positive approaches appropriately and consistently. Have ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with people Excellent oral communication and written communication skills Ability to instruct students individually and in small groups under the direction of a certified teacher PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in supplemental English Language Development instruction (vocabulary and language development, guided interaction strategies, reading comprehension strategies, use of modeling, realia, graphic organizers and visuals, etc.) under the direction of a certified classroom teacher Assist in identifying students for tutoring Tutor students as assigned based on their specific language development skill needs Relay student progress information in English Language Development to the certified classroom teacher on an ongoing basis Participate in professional development activities that support supplemental English Language Development principles and strategies Attend all Bilingual Services Department staff meetings and building meetings Carry out policies and procedures of the South Bend Community School Corporation Use time effectively Complete Time/Task logs daily and submit to the Program Coordinator in the BSD on the last day of each month SPECIAL NOTATION: The position requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities and, at times, evening work.
