Job Description
Chemical Process Engineer
The Chemical Process Engineer leverages their experience and expertise to implement and optimize manufacturing processes. They work closely with cross-functional resources from Research & Development, Analytical, Quality, Operations and Engineering to implement solutions and mentor members of the Engineering team.
The role ensures process operations in the production and small scale facilities can be performed in a safe, predictable and consistent manner, following all safety & environmental regulations and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
The Engineer is responsible for the preparation of cGMP and Process Safety Management (PSM) documentation and the completion of investigations related to manufacturing processes. They foster a positive and professional work environment fully committed to continuous improvement and lean principles. This position offers significant opportunities for technical learning as well as growth in leadership skills and competencies.
The Chemical Process Engineer is on-site in South Haven, MI and reports to theSenior Technical Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
Ensure a safe working environment by following safety protocols and helping improve the safety culture
Support daily manufacturing processes, provide engineering expertise and communicate with stakeholders (operations, maintenance, business, R&D)
Lead with technical expertise of equipment and processes demonstrating a clear understanding of equipment, process flow, critical process parameters and master record instructions.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and support processes and operations
Identify and drive improvement opportunities (ie. procedural changes, upgrades, projects, etc.)
Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve more difficult equipment and operational problems
Support process deviations, observations, and root cause analyses, identifying appropriate & effective corrective actions. Implement corrective actions by collaborating with appropriate functional groups (e.g. Engineering, maintenance, quality, EHS)
Complete change management and implementation to the manufacturing processes and associated systems.
Respond to and implement customer requests related to the equipment and operations
Develop and support qualification of manufacturing processes for drug products. #Indeed #GRACE
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
2+ years experience in a manufacturing or process development environment
Physical Requirements and Environment
Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
Preferred Qualifications
Batch manufacturing experience in a cGMP environment
Batch control, process simulation experience
Industrial experience as an individual contributor and in cross-functional teams, including customer facing roles
