Overview

The Occupational Therapist provides treatment to patients to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of physically, cognitively, or emotionally disabled individuals. The goal is to restore and enhance functional independence. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy and current Occupational Therapy license in good standing with the State of Michigan required.
  • Clinical experience preferred.
  • BLS Certification required within 3 months of employment.
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan, availability of a car for business use on a daily basis, and proof of insurance required.

     

Driving Requirements Driving your own vehicle on a regularly scheduled basis to perform business on behalf of Bronson is required for this position. This will require passing an MVR check after an offer of employment has been made but before the employee's start date. Proof of valid auto insurance on the vehicle used for Bronson business is required. It is the employee's responsibility to submit auto insurance renewals before current coverage expires and to update coverage if a different vehicle will be used.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and implement referrals; evaluate patient functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessment and testing; establish functional baseline for progress and optimal functional independence
  • Establish education and treatment planning
  • Provide family and community education
  • Participate in interdisciplinary discussions/rounds
  • Set patient care goals and estimate the length of treatment
  • Program development and participation in department process improvement
  • Serve as a resource person in areas of expertise
  • Provide in-services in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System
  • Direct patient care according to the treatment plan; facilitate and instruct patients in necessary skills
  • Design and fabricate splints and other assistive devices as needed
  • Cross-train to other departments within Rehabilitation Services as needed
  • Document evaluations, patient treatment plans, treatments performed, and progress; indicate condition in relation to established goals and alter the treatment plan to enhance therapy potential
  • Document in the electronic health record per compliance timelines
  • Communicate to leadership any limitations preventing timely documentation
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records for each person served
  • Serve on committees and task forces
  • Participate in process improvement
  • Demonstrate time management skills
  • Supervise COTA, Rehab Clinical Assistant, OT students, COTA students, and volunteers

     

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for maintaining and upgrading competencies based on the population served, the type and nature of care provided, and advances in healthcare sciences and technology.
