The Schwab Technology Services (STS) Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization partners with Business and Technology Leaders to prioritize and execute technology work for strategic business sponsored initiatives, enhancements, as well as standard technology operations, production support, and technology enablement to ensure STS capacity is focused on the most important work for the company.
What you’ll do:
As a recognized specialist inside Schwab, the project manager lead is responsible for stewarding major business programs and projects which deliver strategic and groundbreaking change to one or more business functions by providing leadership and direction to assigned projects or programs with very large, complex scope. In a matrixed organization, performs project management functions on assigned initiatives under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager.
Responsibilities:
Provides overall project leadership and guidance, and handles all aspects of a given project, including requirements gathering, business case creation, planning, implementation and closing
Works in collaboration with other team members including developers, Scrum Masters, Product Owners and others using Agile, traditional (Waterfall) or hybrid product development approaches
Works with stakeholders across the organization (high-level individual contributors, managers, directors, VPs and key executive-level employees) to ensure the coordination and support required to deliver material and measurable business outcomes
Drives process, content and business impact for large, sophisticated projects
Develops resourcing strategies to ensure optimum support for projects
Rigorously manages scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed upon time, cost, and quality parameters
Validates financial forecasts, cost assumptions, and provides on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures
Works with resource managers to ensure that resource capacity planning is accurately forecast, and provides ongoing reconciliation of actual time spent against forecasts
Handles risks and issues management for the project-level risks and interdependencies
Provides project reporting and status to senior management
Maintains excellent relationships with all levels of the matrixed organization

Influencing and coaching teams and stakeholders.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years of project management work experience, preferably (but not required) within the financial services industry
Proven success managing multi-million dollar, cross-enterprise, strategic, high visibility projects
Business outcomes orientation with a focus on delivery and strategy execution
Proven experience in project, program and portfolio management including processes, roles, responsibilities and tools
Knowledge of current industry trends and evolving practices and the ability to provide optimal recommendations on how they may be operationalized internally
Experience leading business partners and staff through highly complex and innovative projects with company-wide impact, and building partnerships with internal technology partners at the VP level to align on the vision and coordinate roadmaps across organizations
Proven ability to influence, coach, and mentor teams and stakeholders
Experience running complex planning processes across a number of in-flight initiatives, and in leading several multi-threaded projects/work streams
Ability to develop concise and effective communications of complex or complicated topics tailored to specific audiences, including executive leadership, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background/experience in financial services industry
PMP or PMI-ACP certification
