Job Purpose:
The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management within the School of Education at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking an individual to join our vibrant and growing department, with a primary focus on enhancing the educational experience within the Kinesiology program. As one of the four fastest growing majors at Gonzaga University, the Kinesiology program is positioned for continued growth/expansion, and we are pursuing a candidate who will help us meet the evolving needs of our students. We seek a candidate with a strong background in strength and conditioning, with the ability to teach a diverse range of courses within the Kinesiology program. Possible teaching assignments include: Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Prescription, Exercise Testing, Introduction to Kinesiology and Sport Management, Anatomy and Physiology I/II, Motor Development, Kinesiology Capstone, and additional classes based upon candidate's expertise and the needs of the department. An essential aspect of this position will be supporting Kinesiology majors during their time at Gonzaga. This includes advising and mentoring students on both program-specific and university-wide requirements, as well as guiding them in their preparation for employment or continued education upon graduation. Faculty at Gonzaga play a key role in the academic development of students, which includes mentorship and support of our students. In addition to teaching and advising, faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly work and academic citizenship which contribute to the department, school, and university. Inclusion of students in scholarly activities is encouraged, to provide valuable hands-on learning experiences, and develop research skills to prepare them for future academic or professional careers. Essential Functions:
- Teach the equivalent of 18 semester credits within the Kinesiology program over the course of the academic year
- Collaborate with department and university colleagues
- Perform scholarly work as indicated in the faculty handbook
- Advise/mentor students within the Kinesiology program
- Align course content with national organization standards
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or a closely related field (ABD may be considered, with the expectation that the candidate will have their degree in hand by July 15, 2025)
