HP Inc. Domain Name System Administrator in Spring, Texas
Job Summary
This role is responsible for managing and maintaining HP's Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure, ensuring that domain names translate accurately to IP addresses by configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting DNS records, zones, and servers, adhering to security protocols and compliance standards, and collaborating with various IT teams to resolve complex issues related to internet connectivity and domain name resolution
Key responsibilities of a DNS administrator may include:
DNS configuration and management:
Overseeing the complete life cycle of DNS records (A records, CNAME records, MX records, etc.) within HP's ecosystem
Managing DNS zones and record sets
Implementing DNS security features like DNSSEC
Monitoring and troubleshooting:
Monitoring DNS management performance and health
Identifying and resolving DNS related issues like slow resolution times, incorrect record mappings, or outages
Troubleshooting DNS configuration errors and resolving user-related DNS problems
Network administration:
Managing IP address allocation and management (IPAM)
Collaborating with network teams to maintain network infrastructure
Implementing load balancing strategies for DNS servers
Security and compliance:
Ensuring DNS infrastructure is secure and compliant with industry standards
Monitoring for potential security threats and vulnerabilities related to DNS
Implementing appropriate access controls and user permissions
Documentation and reporting:
Maintaining comprehensive documentation of DNS configurations and processes
Generating reports on DNS usage and performance metrics
Education & Experience Recommended
Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
Typically has 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in IT supervisory, or a related field.
Required skills and qualifications:
Strong understanding of DNS protocols and concepts
Experience with DNS server administration tools (e.g., BIND, Microsoft DNS, Infoblox)
Networking knowledge including IP addressing, routing, and network topology
Familiarity with Linux or Windows server operating systems
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
